Rink Hockey For Dummies

One of the best kept secrets in the United States is one of the most well known sports in many other parts of the world. It is not a new game, its origins dating back to Persia 4,000 years ago. The U.S. has produced competitive teams in this traditional form of roller hockey since the 1800’s. There were even famous silent film stars, such as Stan Laurel and Charlie Chaplin, playing on teams in the early 1900’s. Over 60 Countries have Rink Hockey programs.

While the majority of our youth are getting involved in American football and baseball, popular only on our Continent, the majority of European, Latin American and South American youngsters are playing soccer and “Rink Hockey.” In recent years, with the advent of the modern inline roller skate, there has been a form of the game played on the streets, in parks, and arenas in various areas of the Country, but that is NOT the hockey of which I write.

USA Roller Sports Semi Annual Board Meeting

Abuquerque, New Mexico was the site of the Semi Annual Board Meeting held April 14-15, 2012.
The following items regarding Rink Hockey were approved.

2012 National Meet Officials
Meet Director: Bill Sisson
Assistant Meet Directors: Rink Hockey Committee

Referees:  Mark Brailey-Chief Referee
                 Jim Jost & Gary Hendrickson
Additional referees will be added as needed.

Score Keeper:  Irene Allen
                        Additional Score keepers will be added as needed.

2012 Ladies World Championships will be held in Recife, Brazil- November 10-17, 2012.

Ladies World Team Officials:     Frankie Lee, Coach
                                               Daniel Vianna, Assistant Coach
                                               Tom Hughes, Manager
Ladies Team will be selected on Friday, July 13, 2012 in Cumberland, MD and training on the 14th.

Referees for the Ladies World Championship: Mark Brailey
Fund raising Tournament to be held at the National Championships, beginning Saturday July 7th, 2012.
