Rink Hockey For Dummies

By: Linda McNeel

One of the best kept secrets in the United States is one of the most well known sports in many other parts of the world. It is not a new game, its origins dating back to Persia 4,000 years ago. The U.S. has produced competitive teams in this traditional form of roller hockey since the 1800’s. There were even famous silent film stars, such as Stan Laurel and Charlie Chaplin, playing on teams in the early 1900’s. Over 60 Countries have Rink Hockey programs.

Ladies Team USA Plays England and Uruguay

Ladies Team USA Plays England
Ladies Team USA had two matches scheduled for Friday, November 16, the next to the last day of the 2012 Ladies Rink Hockey World Championships in Recife, Brazil. The first was against a very young, strong Team from England. They pressured us right from the start, but we responded by moving the ball around with some very good accurate passing. We got some open breaks on the English and led at the half 3-1. Pressure was their game plan, but we kept moving the ball around creating scoring opportunities and shutting down their ability to control the game and score. We were victorious by a 6-2 margin.
Our second match was against Uruguay. This was also a very young Team, but they lacked the experience to put pressure on us, and they could not get an offense going that could penetrate our defense. We controlled the match from the start, and won the match easily 3-0. Saturday we have a match against India and the last match against Japan.
